First off, has anyone successfully run through the steps here: http://wiki.ppchaven.com/index.php?titl ... ERIZON_GPS

I'm kind of nervous to attempt it, since I like my Vogue very much and if I brick it I'll have to fall back on a VX5200   . It seems to be the only solution though.

I also don't quite understand why it works. I now know the VZW ROM customizations installed some non-standard drivers. I tried flashing to the Bell 3.42 radio on realizing my mistake, hoping it would wipe out the old, but it didn't. (It works fine otherwise though) I'm not sure why this would change anything, if the customizations are suppressed. but whatever.

And I've seen so many warnings about flashing from a 3.xx radio to 1.xx radio, and about the stability of relocking the phone. Is this safer, because we immediately reflash back to the newer radio again? Or is it just as risky?

Of all the forum's I've bounced around to, the PPCHaven seems to be the friendliest from what I've seen as I slowly become familiar with how this whole ROM-flashing thing works.

This is the second forum to have difficulties with NFSFAN, so I feel kind of guilty flashing his ROMs, even though they're great. Any thing comprable? (I like M2D, phonecanvas, large title bar, and the keyboards he uses though).

Thanks!

I actually wrote that tutorial after disabling my GPS so i know for a fact it does work its been tested once since then also. the reason this works is because it writes the original GPS functions back to the phone when you downgrade the radio. then when you re-upgrade it will work again as long as you don't let customizations run.

Okay, cool. I'll probably try it later this week. I saw some more complicated, but similar instructions here, that worked for a few people.

Woooooooo! Locks in under 15s indoors. The steps you outlined worked without a hitch. Customer service had to generate a new a-key for me, but the rep was totally nice about it. Luckily NFSFAN (I know he was an unfriendly Haven member but his ROMs are incredibly polished and nice) included the necessary phone codes as shortcuts, or VZW might have gotten suspicious.

Thanks so much to all the knowledgeable people who came up with the fixes and helped noobs like me get familiar with the PPC development community. You guys are awesome, there are too many great posts and users to list. After around six months of PPC ownership, my XV6900 feels like a whole new phone - zippier UI, snappier web browsing, aGPS, and more.

Same thing here. The process was a little scarry because some Radio/ROM combinations in the process led to phone stuck in bootloader. But, that did not prevent the device from being updated.

Big Thanks!

It depends. Did you flash to the leaked Verizon official ROM upgrade and let customizations run? Then use the short one, with Valhalla. If you're using a custom ROM and have NEVER let the customizations run on the Verizon ROM, THEN you need the long one.

@fabioc: whoa, we must've figured it out at the same time, I just realized you're on XDA too, and I also got nervous after getting stuck in bootloader after making the same mistake.

Anyone have another linke besides PPCGeeks for the instructions to do if VZW customizations ran?  I'm registered there but don't have access to that forum from the error message I get when I try to access it.

Thanks

John

This thread kept me from going insane.  Same problem, GPS non functioning until following this Pocket_PC_WIki:FIX_VERIZON_GPS procedure.  I had no idea at the time how much that "official" upgrade prevented my attempts at moving forward in terms of aGPS.

I had given up on using custom rom's any longer as my punishment for upgrading to the "official" rom. Then I found the wiki link and gave it a try.

I am not able to get aGPS working though. I went thru the wiki step by step to no avail.

I am using NSFAN 1.15VZW rom and am now on 3.37.77 radio.

I think I would rather have GPS than a custom ROM but I really want both!

I got it working. Not sure what made it work but these are the things I did.

1. Removed the battery and re-booted
2. Re-programmed the phone
3. Opened GPS viewer and did a cold start.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I got this XV6900 3 weeks ago and it came with Windows 6.0. I then installed Verizon's 6.1 ROM update...which I guess blocked out my GPS. I then flashed NFSFAN's 6.5 ROM. I'm still a little apprehensive about the radio downgrade. Is it safe because it's a 2.XX radio that those instructions use as opposed to a 1.XX radio? I really HAVE to have GPS working, but I'm not willing to throw a couple hundred dollars in the trash. Other than the typical risk involved in ROM flashing is there any reason to think that this radio downgrade is unsafe? Thanks in advance!

-Travis

Hey... I master reset my device a while ago and installed the 6.5 1.00 from NFS. I am trying to Re-enable the GPS with QPST, but the Pictures in the wiki on XDA are removed. Does anyone know where I could find a QPST walk-thru that has the pictures back... I thought Bruce had hosted the wiki on PPC Haven wiki directly and not just through XDA.
